POLYCOR™ is a polymeric anticorrosion additive in powder form based on a composite of polyaniline doped with a mixture of organic acids.
The mechanism of corrosion protection of steel using coatings containing POLYCOR™ is based on both barrier and cathodic-anodic properties in the contact area between the organic coating and the steel substrate.
How does POLYCOR™ - the anti-corrosion additive for all paint systems - work?
The product’s innovation is based on a molecule developed by our research team and encapsulated in conductive polymers. Thanks to these, the corrosion process is significantly slowed down by blocking oxygen reduction.
At the same time, the core of the molecule, consisting of an organic or inorganic compound, forms a deposit on the steel surface when the paint film breaks. This barrier consequently prevents the corrosion process from progressing.

The mechanism of POLYCOR™ anti-corrosion additive
The following figure shows the mechanism of protection of steel by coatings containing an organic acid doped polyaniline composite. It shows that firstly in the cathodic area the emeraldine salt of PANI (ES) is reduced releasing organic acid anions (A-). The oxygen reduction process is inhibited in this area. Secondly, in the anodic area the manganese cations (II) present capture hydroxyl groups (OH-) which, together with the organic acid anions (A-), form compounds that are very difficult to dissolve. In the third stage, the formed barrier (precipitate) effectively blocks further oxidation of iron.
The next figure shows a comparative diagram of the mode of action of our product – POLYCOR™ cathodic-anionic inhibitor with zinc phosphate (anodic inhibitor). The latter is still the most commonly used corrosion inhibitor today. It is clear from the graphic that the POLYCOR™ anti-corrosion additive not only functions comprehensively, but also does not pose a problem in terms of environmental standards. Because of its uniquely designed and patented synthesis process (checkhere) POLYCOR™ products are considered to be completely harmless for the environment.
